Parachuting

This sport involves a person jumping from a height free falling and then opening a parachute. Where it is done for a sport, it is also a technique used by the Army for their aircrew to make emergency exits if needed and also as a way of getting soldiers into battle.

The height at which sky dive tend to take place from is around 13,000 feet, they then free fall out of what normally tend to be a plane or helicopter and then allow the parachute to open at around 2,500 feet, slowing down the speed at which they are falling which allows them a safe land. The skydiver is able to navigate themselves with the use of toggles which are connected to either side of the parachute, this also allowing them to have some control other the speed at which they are falling. The majority of skydives take place with a instructor who allows a stable exit from the craft they have jumped out of and also makes sure that a stable and safe free fall position is maintained. This therefore allows the skydiver to be less scared of the fall and instead enjoy it.

There are many skydiving clubs which not only offer people to have the experience but they also offer training both individually and in classes. Vertical wind tunnels are used in training; these machines allow participants to practise free falling without having to actually jump out of an aircraft.
